Brookhaven Retreat Center is located in the beautiful piney woods of east Texas, just 50 miles north of Tyler, 100 miles east of Dallas, and 100 miles west of Shreveport. A rustic, but comfortable setting where you will be able to enjoy the quiet, serenity of quilting in the country.

LODGING

Stay in lovely and spacious motel rooms, each uniquely decorated in Texas Casual Elegance. All rooms are nice and clean, and are double-occupancy. No one will have to share a bed or sleep on a top bunk. Brookhaven Retreat Center has a main center that has a large wrap-around porch overlooking a beautiful lake for you to sit back and enjoy the view. We'll have a very large, lodge-style auditorium, so we will have ample sewing space and no one will need to share a sewing table! Take a photo tour.

DINING

The Brookhaven Restaurant will meet all of our dining needs with full, buffet-style Breakfasts, Lunches, and Dinners . Drinks (iced-tea, coffee & water) and gratuities are included in rate.

QUILTING

The sewing room will be open for your use for as many hours as you would like to sew. Make sure you bring plenty of projects to keep you busy!

Be ready to enjoy demonstrations of new, fun, and interesting quilting products. Lucy is going to show us how to make the perfect takeaway for this retreat - materials are included in the package, so just have your machine, and be ready to 'takeaway' some fun.

Projects & Other Fun Stuff...

The goal of this Quilter's Hideout is to provide you with a place where you can sew all you want, while you enjoy some rest and relaxation with friends.  Bring your projects from home or stop by the store on your way to the retreat and pick up a new project.  It is completely up to you how you spend your time at the retreat.

RETREAT PRIZES

We have become famous for our retreat prizes and this retreat will be no different! For each $10 you spend in the store you will be given a ticket that will be entered in a drawing for some really fantastic prizes. The drawing for the prizes will be held at the shop on Friday evening.

FRESH AIR

For those of you who enjoy walking, the retreat center has trails that you can walk through and enjoy the scenery. You can view the spectacular private lake, maybe even catch a glimpse of the wild life, breathe in the freshest air and enjoy the spectacular blue skies and wildlife of Texas while you stitch! Spring is a beautiful time in east Texas and if we are in luck some of the dogwood trees and azaleas will still be in bloom! Our many variety of birds will be busy making nests and our flowers will be budding out. Fall is no less wonderful when all the trees turn, becoming a patchwork of gorgeous color.

SEWING MACHINES

Transporting your machine by car or by air has never been easier with todays machine carrying bags.  Sewing on your own machine is preferred, but if you do need to borrow a sewing machine, we have a limited number on hand.  Each participant at this retreat will have their own table in the open sewing area.  No sharing required! (unless you want to share your chocolate!)

GETTING HERE

The closest airport is Tyler (Pounds Field) although we are only about 100 miles east of DFW. The flight to Tyler from DFW will add some expense to your trip. Some auto rentals are very inexpensive these days especially if there are multiple people sharing the expense. Let us know if you choose to fly into Tyler and need someone to pick you up there.

WHAT ABOUT THE WEATHER?

One thing we can say about Texas, is if you don't like the weather, just wait five minutes because it will change. We recommend casual clothes, comfy shoes, and a light sweater and jacket since sometimes evenings and air conditioning call for a little extra covering. It's a good idea, also to bring along an umbrella and flashlight just in case.

April is generally mid-70s during the day, and mid-60s for the nights. At times April is quite warm. In 2007, however it snowed on Easter Sunday!

Early Fall is usually pretty warm around here, with temperatures mid-70s, and sometimes up into the 90s. But, don't underestimate the power of an air conditioner!

A Little Mystery...

A little Mystery always adds fun to a quilting group, so we've arranged for a great mystery quilt pattern that you're gonna love. With just six steps, you just might go home with another finished project! This fabulous quilt requires 9 fabrics:  A focus print, 2 dark fabrics, 2 medium dark fabrics, 2 light fabrics, a medium light, and a border print. Kits are available. Deadline to order your Mystery Fabric kit is January 15, 2012.

Spa Options...

There are separate cabins at Brookhaven that are just perfect for our spa treatments.  This quaint places provide the seclusion and privacy needed for relaxing massages and facials. All spa treatments will be provided by Krista Vance and Vickie Swann, of Copper Leaf Day Spa.

Krista Vance travels the state of Texas representing various professional skin care product lines as a Technical Trainer teaching other Estheticians procedures in her field such as Skin Resurfacing Peels and Extensive Product Knowledge classes.   Her passion is Anti-Aging protocols, both in Spa Treatments (Microdermabrasion, Skin Resurfacing Peels, Hormonal Acne, Fhoto Facials and Fhoto Rejuvenation) and customizing home care protocols for her clients.   She is currently working under the keen direction of Dr. Kathleen Querry to expand her knowledge in all areas of Laser Technology such as Laser Hair Removal, Tattoo Removal and various Anti-Aging Laser techniques.   Krista is also CEO and Cosmetic Scientist of  Krista Vance Cosmeceuticals (home of the "miracle spray" Earth Mist). This is an all natural mineral based cosmetic line that boasts one of the highest SPF's in the Mineral Make-Up Industry.

Spa Facial - Hydrating, Relaxation and Mini Massage ($65) Clinical Facial - Reverse aging, fine lines and brown spots ($80)

Vickie Swann specializes in Critz Therapy, corrective therapeutic treatment for injuries and chronic pain. Additionally, Vickie is trained and accomplished in Swedish, Thai, Reflexology and Mayo Facial massage techniques. Vickie's passion is to help people enjoy life fully and without pain.

Appointments are limited so pre-reserve your space. Your personal Spa Choices must be made in advance, and are not included in your retreat package. Services offered are as followes:

60 minute full-body massage: $80 30 minute massage: $50
