SEPTEMBER: Blast from the Past

Little Big Man movieAdam Webber (Brendan Fraser) was raised in a bomb shelter by his kooky parents (Christopher Walken and Sissy Spacek). Thirty-five years later, he enters the real world, where he meets Eve (Alicia Silverstone), an LA woman who teaches him lessons about modern life.

Little Big Man quiltThe quilt, designed by Deb, is kooky in it's own rights. The center of the quilt features Alexander Henry's Home Sewing Is Easy fabric with it's comic book print and bright colors. Deb framed the center fabric with a bold and bright zig zag inner border and a fun red polka dot outer border. An interesting, but strange quilt, it is a perfect companion to the movie, which is just as quirky and wonderful. Each kit includes the pattern and fabrics needed to complete the quilt top, including borders and binding. The finished quilt measures 52" x 76".

AUGUST: Little Big Man

Little Big Man movieArthur Penn's film of Thomas Berger's bestselling novel demystifies the Old West with its funny, chaotic portrayal of one man's experiences in its closing days. Jack Crabb (Dustin Hoffman), a 121-year-old Indian living in a rest home, relates his incredible life experiences. According to Crabb's somewhat fanciful tales, he was raised by the Cheyenne from the age of 10 only to be seized by whites when he was 15. He then embarks on a string of failed attempts to find a place for himself in the world. These bring him into contact with (among many others) Wild Bill Hickok, the US Cavalry, a former preacher's wife-turned-prostitute, his own spunky frontierswoman sister, and General George Armstrong Custer during the Battle of Little Big Horn. The result is a funny, spiritual film with a humane view of the plight of Native Americans.Little Big Man quilt

The quilt is a simple design that allows the fabrics to do the work for you. Debby has paired the Churn Dash block and the Hourglass block to achieve an interesting star pattern. The fabrics are Perry Wahe's 'Cowboys & Indians' fabric line designed for Maywood Studios, and have a feather border stripe, that tops off the quilt beautifully. Each kit includes the pattern and fabric to complete the quilt top including borders, binding, and backing fabric. The finished quilt measures 73" x 82".

JULY: Witness

Witness Movie

Australian Peter Weir's first Hollywood film tells the story of John Book (Harrison Ford), a Philadelphia cop whose life is altered while trying to help Rachel (Kelly McGillis), an Amish woman, and her son Samuel (Lukas Haas), who witnesses a murder in a Philadelphia train station bathroom. After discovering that the murder was committed by a member of his force, Book travels to Lancaster County with Rachel and Samuel and poses as a member of the Amish community to hide from his murderous police peers. While there, love blooms between Rachel and Book, and he finds himself drawn in by the honesty and simplicity of the old-world Amish lifestyle. Fine performances and beautiful cinematography are prevalent throughout.

Witness QuiltDesigned by Deb, the quilt is Amish-inspired, and beautiful in it's simplicity. An age-old pattern, the basket, is pieced in bright colors, and set on a black background. The inner border of bright star blocks frames the center block, and gives the quilt an added 'pop' of color. This is a wonderful quilt that is simple, fun, and striking! The finished quilt measures 61 " x 61".

JUNE: Lost Horizon

Lost Horizon MovieThe classic film adaptation of James Hilton's romantic novel of a paradise found... and almost lost forever. Revolution has broken out in China, and English diplomat Robert Conway and his brother George help to evacuate British citizens from the danger zone. But on their way home, gunmen hijack their plane and take them off course; they finally crash in the mountains of Tibet. To the survivors' surprise, a rescue team approaches and leads them into the land of Shangri-La. Robert Conway discovers that the country, established nearly two centuries ago, has magic qualities; within its borders people may survive for hundreds of years, and live in peace and harmony with each other and the world. For Robert, Shangri-La is everything he ever dreamed of -- but his brother wants only to leave. Should he stay, and desert his brother... or go, and never see Shangri-La again?

This beautiful, "patchwork" quilt is straight from paradise. It's simple, to say the least. Debby used Moda's Shangri La pre-printed patchwork fabric to create the beautiful center, and then, just added borders. It doesn't get any better than this! You'll believe you're actually in Shangri La, and you've found your paradise, right there in your sewing room. The finished quilt measures 58" x 86".

MAY: Casablanca

Romancing the Stone MovieA truly perfect movie, the 1942 Casablanca still wows viewers today, and for good reason. Its unique story of a love triangle set against terribly high stakes in the war against a monster is sophisticated instead of outlandish, intriguing instead of garish. Humphrey Bogart plays the allegedly apolitical club owner in unoccupied French territory that is nevertheless crawling with Nazis; Ingrid Bergman is the lover who mysteriously deserted him in Paris; and Paul Heinreid is her heroic, slightly bewildered husband. Claude Rains, Sydney Greenstreet, Peter Lorre, and Conrad Veidt are among what may be the best supporting cast in the history of Hollywood films. This is certainly among the most spirited and ennobling movies ever made.

The quilt is a simple, Attic Window block paired with beautiful, neutral tones and an exotic center fabric complete with a tropical scene. Don't we all wish we could look out the attic window to this scene! This quilt is a quick, easy project that will allow you to enjoy the romance of Casablanca (the movie, that is). And after a wonderful time of piecing and romance, you'll have a cozy quilt to snuggle under with your loved one. Each kit includes the pattern and fabrics needed to make one quilt top. The finished quilt measures 64" x 88".

APRIL: Lawrence of Arabia

Romancing the Stone MovieAll the way from 1962, Lawrence of Arabia is still a much-loved movie, and a classic that should be enjoyed by all. Director David Lean follows the heroic true-life odyssey of T.E. Lawrence (Peter O'Toole) in this dramatic portrait of the famed British officer's journey to the Middle East. Assigned to Arabia during World War I, Lawrence courageously unites the warring Arab factions into a strong guerrilla front and leads them to brilliant victories in treacherous desert battlefields where they eventually defeat the ruling Turkish Empire. The film features a literate script by Robert Bolt and an outstanding cast, which also includes Claude Rains, Jack Hawkins, Arthur Kennedy, Anthony Quinn, Jose Ferrer, and Omar Sharif in his unforgettable desert-crossing debut.

Romancing the Stone QuiltThe quilt, designed by Deb, is striking! Simple pinwheels and 4-patch blocks are brought to life with Benartex's Arabesque fabric line. Combining the rich color of the desert with a basic block setting, these patchwork pieces will come together in no time, and you'll have a gorgeous finished quilt. Once again, the fabrics do all the work for you, and leave you to enjoy the movie while you quilt. Each kit includes the pattern and fabrics to make the quilt top. The finished quilt measures 76" x 88".

MARCH: Romancing the Stone

Romancing the Stone MovieThough she can spin wild tales of passionate romance, novelist Joan Wilder (Kathleen Turner) has no life of her own. Then one day adventure comes her way in the form of a mysterious package. It turns out that the parcel is the ransom she'll need to free her abducted sister, so Joan flies to South America to hand it over. But she gets on the wrong bus and winds up hopelessly stranded in the jungle--until she encounters Jack Colton (Michael Douglas), a man who could have stepped straight out of one of her novels. Though his good looks and intrepid moves dazzle her, Joan quickly sees Jack for the cheap opportunist that he is. But he's all she's got, so together they journey out of the jungle, battling mudslides, druglords, crazed treasure-hunters--and each other. Along the way, Joan discovers she's tougher than she ever thought, tough enough to rescue her sister, and tough enough to fall in love with the troublesome Jack. Romancing the Stone Quilt

Our quilt, designed by Deb, uses rich, jeweltone batiks to 'polish up' this jewel box block and bring out it's natural shine. Not only is it a jewel to piece, it's a diamond of a quilt. If quilts were jewelry, you could wear this one on your finger! Each kit includes the pattern and fabrics needed to complete the quilt top and binding. We are offering this quilt in a twin size (76" x 88") or a queen size (88" x 100"). If you would prefer the queen sized quilt, you will need to let us know. JANUARY: The Flintstones

The Flintstones MovieThe good (if not fully evolved) citizens of Bedrock make their way to the big screen in this live-action adaptation of the popular animated series of the 1960s. Fred Flintstone (John Goodman) and his best friend Barney Rubble (Rick Moranis) work together at the Slate & Company Rock Quarry. When Fred loans Barney some money that allows him and his wife Betty (Rosie O'Donnell) to adopt a child, Barney is looking for a way to show his gratitude. Barney thinks he's found one when the executives at Slate and Company announce that they're giving all their employees intelligence tests to help determine future promotions. When Barney switches his high-scoring test with Fred's, his plan works -- but not quite the way he had hoped: Fred is deemed executive material and given a big promotion, complete with a sexy secretary (Halle Berry) who makes his wife Wilma (Elizabeth Perkins) jealous, while Barney is soon out of a job and can't pay his bills. Bill Hanna and Joseph Barbara, who created the original television series, make cameo appearances here; Elizabeth Taylor gives a fine comic performance as Wilma's nagging mother, and Harvey Korman provides the voice of the Dictabird.Yabba Dabba Doo quilt

You'll have a Yabba Dabba Doo time with this quilt! The fabrics, from Quilting Treasures feature the original 1960s Flintstones cartoon characters in fun, colorful cotton prints. It is a simple project, made using the panel, and can be put together in a Bedrock minute. Then, when you're done, it's a great way to show the special "child" in your life just how much you love them. The finished quilt measures 51" x 61".
