The Old Country Store and Quilt Museum
We'll be warmly welcomed and treated to goodies by the staff at The Old Country Store, an historic country store located in the quaint village of Intercourse. The store, voted "One of the 10 best quilt shops in the United States (Quilt Sampler Magazine)" is famous for its vast fabric selection. They have more than 6,000 bolts of first-quality Balis, Repros, solids, flannels, homespun, precuts, and other quilting fabrics. They're known for their excellent display of fat-quarter bundles, pattern kits, and notions. The friendly and knowledgeable store staff will be demonstrating some fun, new projects and tools. The Old Country Store also features hundreds of locally made crafts and quilts, many of them from Amish and Mennonites. (You'll find no manufactured gift lines or products made outside the U.S.) The entire store is a celebration of creativity and ingenuity.
We'll divide our group, and while some of us browse the store, the other half will be treated to a privately guided tour through the Quilt Museum, located on the second floor. "A Showcase of Quilts: Dazzling Contemporary Creations" features 22 quilts by a variety of contemporary quilters. Each quilt was selected for its outstanding design, color, and workmanship. The Museum Shoppe specializes in outstanding one-of-a-kind folk objects and textile-related handmade crafts. Treat yourself to a new needlebox, reproduction pin cushion, hand-sewn wool bag, loom-woven tablerunner, or wooden Shaker box! Find an unusual collection of quilt art books, notecards, and an extensive line of children's quilt books.
Following our time in The Old Country Store and Museum, their staff welcomes us to visit their other retail shoppes including Main Street Book Shop and Gallery, The Village Pottery, The Good Cooking Store, and The Good Scoop. Demos, discounts, and special promotions await us at each location.
While in Intercourse be sure to also visit two additional fabric shops, Zookís and Bitty Kinna, as well as several quilts shops. The town is also home to Kitchen Kettle, famous for its Jam and Jelly Kitchen, charming little shops, and a variety of food options. You'll be on your own for the day, including lunch.
Wine Tasting at the Mount Hope Winery Store

Dinner at Plain and Fancy
Deborah grew up on a farm. So did Amos, Ben, Manny and Elmer, the Amish farmers who supply us with sweet corn, tomatoes, watermelon, cabbage, broccoli, squash, peppers and onions. These neighbors have helped us go from "farm to table" for over 50 years. Plain & Fancy is home to Lancaster County PA's original Amish Farm Feast. This full course, pass-the-platter dinner includes appetizers, entrees, sides, breads, desserts and beverages.
After dinner, we will return to the hotel for some rest and relaxation to prepare us for day two!

Longwood Gardens with Master Gardener
In 1906, Pierre S. du Pont purchased the Peirce Arboretum to save its trees from being cut for lumber. Over the next nearly half century, Mr. du Pont developed Longwood Gardens into what it is today, a magnificent horticultural showplace. When visiting Longwood Gardens, you are immersed not only in the breathtaking surroundings, but in the rich history as well. The traditions and elegance of the gardens have evolved over time, and resulted in the magnificence we have today. Step back in time and learn about the important cultural events and their contribution to today
is Longwood Gardens. Enjoy the tour, take a stroll in the gardens, and have lunch on your own.
Strasburg Railroad
This is quite possibly the best way to experience Lancaster County. Traveling aboard authentic passenger cars, pulled by a massive, coal-burning steam locomotive, there's beauty as far as the eyes can see. Rolling hills. Working farms. A landscape that has changed little over time. Your journey starts with a 45-minute train ride on America's oldest short-line railroad - circa 1832. Travel when you want, how you want. From Coach to First-Class, Open Air to the Dining Car - it's one ride that is sure to please. Back at the station, test your power on our authentic Pump Car, take a ride on our miniature steam train or go along for a behind-the-scenes tour of where passenger cars and steam engines are built, restored and refurbished.
Big Bear Candles
Lonnie Brinkley, owner, makes candles and demonstrate candle making every day to the delight of the visitors. Their demonstrations are not just pouring of candles into molds but of the meticulous carving of the candles, an art most people never witness. They sell thousands of craft items all handmade here in Lancaster County each year, and are the home to the "I Believe" books. "I Believe" books are for anyone who has ever wondered about the everyday lives of Santa, Mrs. Claus, and the elves, I Believe: Lost at the North Pole will surprise with never before disclosed details of the inner workings of Santa's Christmas Village. The engrossing narrative follows an eyewitness account by a scientist named Lon who is stationed at the top of the world to investigate why part of the ice cap is shrinking. When he finds himself isolated from his team and at the mercy of a blizzard, Lon's safety suddenly hinges on a mysterious elf and four reindeer. They lead him to shelter and an eye-opening week inside Santa's castle and complex. Author Lonnie R. Brinkley, also Candle Maker, has taken storytelling to new heights with a rich collection of anecdotes that not only reveal the secrets of Santa's toy-making operation, but also inspire the reader to create the ultimate rewarding life that most people only dream of. While we are there we will have a carved candle making demonstration.
Miller's Quilt Shop gallery of local handmade quilts. Two local Amish and/or experienced Amish or Mennonite quilters will meet the group to demonstrate their quilting and stitching methods. They will share tips and techniques of hand quilting .
Dinner at Miller's Smorgasbord
80 years ago... Anna Miller served chicken & waffles to truckers as her husband repaired their rigs. It was a simple dish, but it was always served up with a smile. Today our tried & true recipes may not be as simple, but they are prepared with the freshest ingredients...and they are still served up with a smile. If you miss Miller's, you miss Lancaster County.
There are 235,000 chain restaurants in the U.S. Many order supplies from their headquarters and prepare meals that are nice and predictable. At Miller's, we cook from scratch and prepare meals that you want to tell your friends about. We get supplies like sweet corn, tomatoes, watermelon, cabbage, broccoli, squash, peppers and onions from Amos, Ben, Manny and Elmer, our Amish neighbors whose farms surround our restaurants. |

After a Full Buffet Breakfast at Loxley's we will tour...
Lancaster's Central Farmer's Market with the Market Master
We will start our day with a reception at the Quilt Museum which is located in the heart of Lancaster City's vibrant arts district, just steps away from Central Market. The stunning architecture of this 1912 Beaux Arts Bank is accented by exhibitions in the building's textile gallery, featuring the rich and diverse textile traditions of Lancaster County and south-central Pennsylvania. At the heart of the museum's exhibitions is what many scholars consider to be the finest collection of authentic late 19th-20th century Amish Quilts indigenous to this region. Formerly known as the "Esprit Collection", it was the brainchild of Doug Tompkins, a founder of the Esprit Corporation, who began collecting the quilts during the 1970s. The Heritage Center acquired this collection in 2002. The combination of the Esprit Collection with the Heritage Center's own quilt and textile collection results in one of the largest collections of its kind anywhere to be presented in context with the stories of south-central Pennsylvanians.
Smuckers Quilts
Rachel Smucker invites you to see the beautiful display of quilts in her new quilt shop on her Amish farm. See over 100 quality, colorful quilts hand crafted by local Amish and Mennonite women. Quilts, wall hangings, pillows, dolls and more are available at competitive prices.

An Evening with the Amish -
An exclusive program!!
Enjoy a rare opportunity for true interaction with an Amish family! Sit down to an authentic Pennsylvania Dutch meal catered in their home. The family will sit down and dine right along with our group at the numerous stables that are set up throughout the first floor of the large home which sits on a pristine dairy farm. We will watch as mules and cows graze in the fields, or we can play with the grandchildren, wander about the farm, enjoy the sunset from a rocking chair on the porch, and listen to the neighbor's buggies clip clopping down the road while delighting in an unbelievably peaceful experience!
Four generations of the family participate during the evening and they are there to converse and to answer any questions that the group members may have. We will discover the evening is just as anticipated by this family as it is by our group! Following a hardy dinner of chicken, ham, roast beef and an assortment of side dishes, the owner of the farm will get up and begin asking questions of the group in order to set the discussion in motion. Our interests and personalities will determine the direction of the conversation. This event promises to be the highlight of our tour!
