Our Guest Teacher:
While at sea, we will enjoy classes and lectures from our Guest Quilting Instructor, Deb Tucker. Deb has been a passionate quilter since 1981.
Her background in architectural studies and a career in public school education well prepared her for the overwhelmingly successful launch of Studio 180 Designs in 2007.
Based in Cogan Station, PA, and traveling internationally, Deb is an avid instructor and well-known lecturer, quilt show judge, pattern designer/publisher, and quilting tool creator. Inventor and patent-holder for the ingenious Tucker Trimmer I, II and III; The Rapid Fire Hunter Star in two versions; the Quilter's Magic Wand; Wing Clipper I and II; Square/Squared; V-Block Trimmer and the newest addition Rapid Fire Lemoyne Star; Deb's forte' is the development of efficient and precise ways to simply piece intricate quilt block units.
A self-proclaimed "enthusiastic and obsessive quilt maker" and "quilt guru", Deb's energy is contagious! Deb loves to say, "If fun is part of the equation, learning will be the end result!" Creative brainstorming and sharing, personal attention, and high energy fun are the trademarks of quilt camp with instructor Deb Tucker.

The Sewing Projects:

|
While at sea, we will each create a "Trade Winds" quilt.
This spectacular quilt design uses three of Deb's newest tools: "Rapid Fire Lemoyne Star" for the two different size stars in the center section, "V Block Trimmer" for the pointy units of the pieced borders, and "Square/Squared" for the diamond square units in the pieced border.
Using these tools and Deb's streamlined construction techniques, quilters will actually be constructing all sections slightly oversized and then trimming to perfect dimensions thus insuring high success. This will be an adventure in piecing perfection ... and boatloads of fun!

The Cruise:
|
This cruise is all about quilting fun with girlfriends new and old. We begin our journey on November 4, 2012 and depart from Galveston, TX, for a
seven-night Western Caribbean Cruise.
Our
first stop is Montego Bay, Jamaica.
"Mo' Bay" (as the locals say) is Jamaica's second-largest community with gorgeous white-sand beaches and mangrove wetlands that surround the old town, which rests at the bottom of lush green mountains. Montego Bay offers the best of the Caribbean, including beautiful Georgian architecture in the historic town of Falmouth. Montego Bay also has phenomenal savings on designer jewelry and giftware so be sure to check out the best duty-free shopping at the City Center shopping area and the Half Moon Shopping Village. You will also want to pick up some of Jamaica's world-famous Blue Mountain coffee and rum, as well as some local art and unique T-shirts. While visiting friendly Mo' Bay, you will soon discover that having a great time is always "no problem".
Next stop is the Grand Cayman Islands. Kissed by sparkling turquoise waters, the Cayman Islands is a dream-come-true for watersports enthusiasts. You can snorkel with stingrays, go scuba diving, sail a catamaran, take in some sport fishing, or just mellow out along the powder-soft sand of the magnificent Seven Mile Beach. While you're here, don't forget to visit the town of Hell, which is a devilishly popular place to mail postcards from.
Our
third and final port-of-call is Cozumel, Mexico. Long before Cancun became a popular destination, Cozumel was well-known as a diving spot and home to the world famous Palancar Reef, which gives divers the opportunity to view thousands of brilliantly colored fish. Non-divers will enjoy any number of seaside activities, such as exploring the ruins of the ancient Mayan city of Tulum, shopping the colorful marketplaces and dining in an open-air cafe. But before you return to the ship, you must take a moment to kick back and bury your toes into the white sands of Playa Mia Beach. Just doesn't get any better than that!
|
The Ship:
Our Girlfriends Magic Quilting Cruise will take place aboard Carnival Cruise Lines' newest and largest ship, Carnival Magic. This 130,000-ton masterpiece launched in May 2011, and will cruise very smoothly with little movement felt. In fact, you may have to keep looking outside to remind yourself that you are indeed on a moving cruise ship. Now that's magic!

General Information
Cabins:
With so much to do onboard, chances are really good that you will just use your cabin for changing and sleeping, but it's nice to know that if you want to spend more time there, you will indeed be comfortable. All standard staterooms are attractively decorated in soft neutral tones with tropical themed artwork on the walls. Each stateroom includes a flat-screen color TV, soft and comfortable linens, hairdryers, bathrobes, 24-hour stateroom service, and ample closets and clothing drawers. The private bathrooms are on the small side, but functional and include a walk-in shower, and a separate mirrored sink area with shelving space for your personal items. Carnival Magic provides an in-shower dispenser of shampoo and body wash. Beach and pool towels are also provided for your use during the cruise.
Dress:
During the day, dress is casual. Evenings are either casual, smart casual or formal. On casual nights, suggested attire is sports shirts and slacks for men and sundresses or pants for women. On smart casual evenings, men should don jackets and tie, with women wearing dresses or pantsuits. On the one or two formal nights per cruise, men can choose from tuxedos or suits and ties, while woman usually wear cocktail dresses.
